What is a superfood?
Although there is not a specific definition about superfoods, they are known as foods that contain the highest levels of minerals and vitamins that our body needs as well as providing your body with antioxidants to help you prevent many diseases.
Know some of the richest superfoods:
- Açai: this is a berry from the rainforests of South America which will help you losing weight and which is also known as a powerful anti-aging fruit. It contains high levels of antioxidants in the form of anthocyanins, helping fight cancer and heart disease. Process it with some Greek yogurt, some oak, honey and strawberries. It’s a delicious breakfast for those busy days.
- Chia seeds: Mexico gives us these amazing nutrient-rich seeds that contain omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and calcium. Eat them as a dressing for your salads; mix them with your oatmeal or in stir-fries.
- Black beans: a cup of black beans packs 15 grams of protein, with none of the artery-clogging saturated fat that we can have by eating meat. Black beans are full of heart-healthy fiber, antioxidants, and energy-boosting iron. Prepare a delicious salad mixing whole-kernel corn, some diced cucumber, cilantro, lime juice, salt, pepper, crumble feta and black beans.
- Broccoli: broccoli contains phytonutrients that may suppress the growth of tumors and reduce cancer risk. One cup of this veggie powerhouse will supply you with your daily dose of immunity-boosting vitamin C and a large percentage of folic acid. Try them grilled with some lemon juice, salt and pepper.
